A jack of many trades, David Kim is an accomplished Korean-American filmmaker passionate about highlighting API narratives. Originally from Colorado, he recently earned his MFA in Film Directing from UCLA and has led several key projects, including shorts like YOUR ROOM IS READY (Editor, 2023, LA Shorts International Film Festival) and FIDEL (Producer, 2024, Palm Springs ShortFest). His work has earned him prestigious awards and fellowships such as the Edie and Lew Wasserman Film Production Fellowship, the George and Sakaye Aratani Fellowship, and the Federico De Laurentiis Memorial Award.
David is finishing his thesis film, YAKSOK (Director, 2024), a film about a Korean-born samurai fighting on the wrong side of the Imjin War, amongst other projects. As he does so, he is editing or has completed several short films, including WAKING and GARDENERS.
Outside of filmmaking, David enjoys making music, exploring new anime, and spending time with his family.
